Holly grew up in the Chicago, Illinois area (also known as the very best city in these United States) but currently lives in Wichita, Kansas (which is slooooowly earning the runner up title).
After living in Rome, Italy for a year and then hemming and hawing about her future she attended graduate school and got degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Christian Studies. She also met her now-husband, who somehow convinced her to trade in aspirations of city living for the slower paced Kansas life. What can she say? He’s just that good lookin’. (Now if he could only convince Trader Joe’s and Anthropologie to move with her…)
A few years later she’s balancing a part-time job as a college psychology instructor with a full-time job as a mom to her one-year-old son. She spends a lot of her spare time at the church where her husband is a high school pastor, as well as working on updating her 1950’s house and writing the occasional article for Mighty Moms. If you were to drop by her house you would likely find her:
- answering her son’s 175th “what’s dis?” for the hour
- listening to Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me! on NPR
- being the living embodiment of the phrase “jack of all trades, master of none” (right now that’s gardening, woodworking, cooking, home renovation, pilates…)
- trying in vain to figure out the insane narrative of Goodnight Moon. (Goodnight mush?!)
Holly loves writing to moms. The day your first child is born is one of those few times in life when you’re suddenly in totally new and uncharted territory. In a terrifying yet wonderful way you are faced with your own complete and total inadequacy, as well as driven into deeper dependence on family and friends. It has lead her to plead with God in prayer, seek community with friends, and laugh/cry in the same breath.
Holly is so grateful to be allowed to lend her voice to such an encouraging and real little corner of the internet.
