Are There Benefits to Children Playing With Dolls Besides Fun?
At a young age, children can be quite difficult to please and entertain. Even with modern devices such as tablets and smartphones, some kids just can’t be entertained. Sometimes, they need something interactive that they can play with, and dolls are one of the best ways of fulfilling that fantasy for them. Are dolls, however, even useful for anything other than playing?
Surprisingly, they are. Read on to find out why your child should really have a doll while they’re still young.
WHY YOUR CHILD NEEDS DOLLS
It sparks their imagination
Kids have wild imaginations. You may not remember it, but back when you were a kid you felt it, too. That spark of wonder, curiosity, and amazement at anything new and exciting. Being a kid means that the world is full of unknowns, and their developing brain is still taking time to get used to its surroundings. With a wild imagination comes tons of possibilities, and it’s in your best interest to keep that spark of imagination alive in your child.
One of the easiest ways to keep your child imaginative is with the help of toys, especially dolls. Dolls do nothing on their own — you can move them and pose them, maybe even dress them with doll accessories, but that’s basically it. When you use imagination, however, you can do so much more. Children play with dolls and imagine them in all sorts of scenarios — enjoying a tea party, fighting a fearsome dragon, or escaping a cave with a monster inside it. These whimsical fantasies are easier to imagine with something real to serve as the bridge, and dolls are perfect for serving as that medium.
It gives them a companion
Some children simply can’t socialize very well. Even at a young age, certain kids possess communication problems, and while this doesn’t necessarily mean anything serious, it does mean that your child may feel alone or isolated. To make sure that they don’t feel so alone at home, you can give them dolls.
Dolls may seem like terrible companions for children, but to them, it won’t seem that way. Imagining companions and friends that they can rely on gives them some form of support and fun that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to have.
THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH A LITTLE FUN
Finally, a small note — even if dolls did nothing more than make your child have fun, there’s nothing wrong with giving them a doll. Children are supposed to enjoy their childhood while it lasts, and as a parent, you should do your best to fill it with happy memories. While dolls may distract your child from work, you can always keep them from them and return them when they’re done with their tasks and chores. You can also teach them restraint with them so they learn to control themselves.
All in all, dolls do a lot more than just keep your kid occupied. They can spark your kid’s imagination and even serve as their best friend when they need it. And even if all they did was make your child happy, isn’t that more than enough?
